Free and Total Chlorine Analyser – The New Online DPD Analyser from Pi

DPDSense, Pi’s brand new free chlorine analyser and total chlorine analyser which measures the concentration of free chlorine or total chlorine in a water sample. DPDSense from Pi needs no calibration, meaning that once it is out of the box, it can be plugged in and is ready to go! The DPDSense can become multi-parameter when used with either a CRIUS®4.0 or CRONOS® controller, so you can add other parameters such as pH or turbidity.

 What’s different about Pi’s DPD Analyser?

The specification given to Pi’s development team when discussing the new DPD analyser was “Make Pi’s DPD analyser as good or better than the leading competitor….. but easier to maintain”. Just like always, they hit the nail on the head and did exactly that.

The Chemistry Behind DPDSense;

DPD (N,N-Diethyl-p-phenylenediamine) reacts with chlorine present in a water sample, and the result is a pink coloured solution. The DPDSense then uses 520nm light to detect a colour change. The absorption of light (measured by the depth of the pink colour) is proportional to the amount of free chlorine and/or total chlorine present in the sample. The technique used by Pi’s DPDSense is accepted worldwide as a standard method for the online monitoring of residual chlorine levels in water.

What are the applications of the DPDSense from Pi?

The applications of the DPDSense are many, including; drinking water, cooling towers, remote sites, food preparation, distribution monitoring, and secondary chlorination. Pi’s DPDSense can fit in just about everywhere!

But what about the reputation that Online DPD Instruments have?

Online DPD Instruments tend to have a reputation that they are difficult to work on. Pi’s DPDSense however, has full easy access to tubes and pumps, meaning that the minimal six-monthly maintenance required is quick, easy, and inexpensive.
