Free and Total Residual Chlorine Analyser – DPDSense – Online DPD

DPDSense is a colorimetric analyzer that measures free and total chlorine using DPD (N,N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine), an industry standard method. The DPDSense features six-month maintenance intervals, reducing operational costs. It measures two forms of chlorine in water: ‘free’ chlorine (HOCl + OCl) and ‘total’ chlorine (free chlorine + chloramines). After chlorine reacts with contaminants during disinfection, the remaining chlorine is considered ‘residual.’

Process Instruments offers three measurement options: HaloSense (electrochemical), DPDSense (DPD), and Chloribrid® (combined technology).

The DPDSense continually samples water, adding liquid buffer and DPD reagent. The chlorine reaction produces a pink color, with intensity proportional to chlorine concentration. Following Beer-Lambert’s law, a photometer measures light absorption to determine chlorine levels.

The DPDSense and its reagents are market-competitive in cost. Maintenance is required every six months, compared to monthly maintenance for similar analyzers.

  • Stable operation
  • No routine calibration needed
  • Multi-sensor capability
  • Dual and triple validation
  • Suitable for various water applications
